in his own words

MEET JOE JORDAN

BACKGROUND.

I was born October 30, 1978, in Mecklenburg County and moved to Belmont in 1979 when I was 8 months old. My parents, David Michael Jordan, Sr., and Tona Renee Brown Jordan, were both raised in Belmont. My mother’s family worked in the Imperial and the Chronicle mill and lived in the mill villages, and my father’s family was involved in local textiles. Both were graduates of Belmont High School and raised me and my siblings—David M. Jordan, Jr., and Sara Kathleen Jordan Caldwell—in South Belmont on Bowen Drive.

Growing up, I was raised deeply rooted in faith and community. We were active members of First Baptist Church in Belmont and Catawba Heights Baptist. These values help shaped who I am today and formed the foundation of my approach to conservative leadership. Belmont has always been special to me. It is where my family’s story was built, and where I’ve chosen to raise my own family.

education & early career.

I attended Cramerton Christian School from 1st through 9th grade and transferred to Gaston Christian School, which was then located in downtown Belmont, for 10th through 12th, graduating with honors in 1997. While at GCS, I was a member of the Beta Club and captain of the golf team. My interest in law began in high school and led me to seek mentorship from local attorneys, including Robert C. Whitt, former mayor of Mt. Holly. I began my clerkship with Robert in the fall of 1997 and studied under his leadership until I opened my own practice in 2005.

After high school, I enrolled at Belmont Abbey College, majoring in Political Science. During my time at the Abbey, I pledged Gamma Delta Ki, which later became a chapter of Delta Tau Delta, and graduated Cum Laude in 2001. I also clerked for the Gaston County District and Superior Court Judges’ office, working with Hon. Jesse Caldwell, III, and others, continuing my experience in legal practice and public service.

In 2001, I was accepted into Campbell School of Law (Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University), where I continued to pursue my legal career. While in law school, I continued to clerk with Robert and the Gaston County Judge’s office, gaining leadership and practical courtroom experience. During my 3L year, I was engaged to Susan, my wife, who also has strong Belmont roots. We married in 2004, after my graduation from Campbell that year.

BUILDING A CAREER IN BELMONT.

After being admitted to the NC Bar in 2004, I began my legal career in Gaston County. I initially focused on court-appointed defense and juvenile work, but in 2005, I transitioned my law practice to serving dental clients exclusively. This experience later led to the founding of my brokerage firm, Jordan Practice Advisors, Inc., in 2008, which offers services to dental professionals nationwide.

Over the years, I’ve built a reputation as a leader in the dental field, speaking at national conferences and educating others on practice transitions and mergers. My law office, based in downtown Belmont, now includes a second attorney, my law partner Megan Weber, as well as my sister, Sara, who helps run daily operations.

In 2019, I purchased the property at 128 N. Main Street. The building required extensive renovations, and we restored it to meet Belmont’s standards. In 2020, we moved my law practice into the building, offering additional spaces for rent. In 2023, we partnered to open The Pharmacy, in the renovated basement, another investment in Belmont’s downtown revitalization.

FAMILY & COMMUNITY.

After moving back from law school, Susan and I lived in North Belmont’s Pebble Creek neighborhood for 12 years, where we made lifelong connections. We welcomed our children, Jackson (2013) and Abigail (2015), while living there. In 2017, we built our current home in downtown Belmont, the first residential home built in the historic district of downtown since the 1950s. Susan’s family remains heavily involved in the community, owning commercial real estate and serving on various boards.

My personal experiences in North Belmont, combined with my professional and civic work downtown, have given me a unique perspective on Belmont’s challenges and opportunities. I’m committed to ensuring all areas of Belmont receive the attention and support they deserve.
